Previously a dean at the Ivy League School, Claudine Gay is also now the second woman to ever hold the position of President.

According to NBC News, women surpass the number of men holding chief positions at the top eight Ivy League Schools.

Ruth Simmons was the only other Black woman to ever lead an Ivy League School, from 2001-2012 at Brown University.

A report from AP News suggests that one of the challenges Gay could face in her first term as President of Harvard University could be to tackle the fallout from the Supreme Court's ruling on affirmative action.
