A lot has happened since I've been away but fear not , I am here to catch you up on all the news you may have missed!


Lets kick it off with a few important headlines from the month of August thus far:

Kamala Harris selected as VP on Joe Bidens Presidential ticket

What a moment in history!


Senator Kamala Harris is the first woman of color to be nominated for national office by a major party.


Harris is the daughter of two immigrant parents who created a life for themselves and Kamala centered around academia.


Biden's choice to pick Kamala could increase the turnout for Black voters needed for Biden to win the election.


The Post Office's Mail Slowdown

Packages that normally get to your doorstep in 3-5 business days are now taking weeks to be delivered.


Small businesses are taking a hit, people who receive prescriptions in the mail are experiencing setbacks as well.


The mail slowdown has caused a major issue for postal workers now that their hours have been cut and some have been placed on administrative leave.


With mail deliveries being delayed, this put's peoples health at risk and businesses in a financial bind if they can't receive their packages on time.


Schools Reopened and COVID-19 Reared It's Ugly Head

College students along with children in grades k-12 have returned back to school but Coronavirus is still very much active and spreading.


With masks in hand and sanitizer strapped to every backpack, students are prepared to reduce the risks of catching the virus but it's not completely preventable.


Test results are taking anywhere from 1 week to a month to get back which is a major problem for students and teachers who are awaiting to see if they have the virus. In the time you could be waiting for results, that same time you could contract the virus making your new results invalid.


Students still have the option to partake in face-to-face learning but most are opting for the virtual learning for their safety and the safety of their families.


Justice for Jacob Blake


Jacob Blake, 29 years old was shot 7 times in the back by Kenosha, Wisconsin police while entering his vehicle with his children.


Blake survived the shooting but is now paralyzed from the waist down.


Police will not comment on the reason behind why the sooting happened in the first place.


Body cameras have not yet been implemented into the Kenosha police protocol so no one but bystanders have some sort of idea of what happened that night of the shooting.


A protest followed after the shooting of Blake, which turned violent and left two people dead and one injured.


NBA Boycott Due to Racial Injustice amidst Jacob Blake Shooting


"Enough is enough. We demand change", LeBron James said in a statement regarding the unjust killings of Black men across America.


The NBA has postponed all three of their playoff games after other teams decided they would not play until there is #JusticeForJacobBlake


The Milwaukee Bucks' called off their game to show their support against the social injustice surrounded by Black men. Shortly after, NBA players like LeBron James took to social media to show their support as well.


MLB team Milwaukee Brewers joined the Bucks in the Boycott.
