The Great Insurrection of 2021

What started as a peaceful protest on Capitol Hill ended with millions of Trump supporters storming the U.S. Capitol, leaving our country's leaders to fear for their lives.

January 6th, 2021, was the first time the U.S. Capitol had been since the British attacked in 1814.

According to CNN, the Capitol's breach happened while lawmakers counted votes to certify President-elect Biden's win.

Many people wonder how one of the most secure locations in the United States was overthrown by Trump supporters' violent mob.

According to the New York Times, a Capitol police officer was beaten to death, a rioter was shot and killed, and 3 rioters died while they stormed the Capitol. Dozens of rioters were snapping selfies and taking to social media while looting the U.S. Capitol.

The siege on Capitol Hill was incited by President Trump in a tweet he made telling his supporters to show up for a "big protest" in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 6th, according to PolitiFact.

Since making several tweets to the rioters about voter fraud and inciting a riot through his Twitter megaphone, Trump has been banned from multiple social media and hosting platforms, including;

-Twitter

-Facebook

-Instagram

-YouTube

-Amazon Web Services

-Snapchat

-Reddit

-LiquidWeb

-Shopify

In the coming weeks, we can expect that the FBI will continue their investigation in arresting those in connection with the Capitol Hill riot.

In the meantime, Federal and State law enforcement agencies are bracing for potential protests at state Capitols across the nation, according to NBC News.

A social media analysis for NBC News reports that dozens of flyers have been surfacing the internet advertising pro-Trump rallies that read "Refuse to be silenced" and "Freedom is a right."

Rep. Cori Bush stated in an interview with MSNBC that had the pro-Trump rioters who stormed the capitol earlier in the day been Black, "they would have been shot."
