Due to the pandemic nearly 30 to 40 million Americans are at risk of bring evicted according to the Aspen Institute.

"Many property owners, who lack the credit or financial ability to cover rental payment arrears, will struggle to pay their mortgages and property taxes and maintain properties."-Aspen Institute

The eviction order's criteria: Source 11Alive.com

  • A renter must prove that they can’t expect to earn more than $99,000 in 2020 ($198,000 if married and filing a joint tax return).

  • Experience a loss of household income, layoff or out-of-pocket medical expense.

  • Make timely partial payments, and/or that eviction will lead to homelessness, moving to a place that is more expensive, or put a renter close to others who could be infected with the virus.

Be mindful that a landlord can still evict a renter for disruption, destruction, or failure to pay rent once the moratorium is lifted.

Although it may be nearly impossible to pay your rent due to COVID-19 putting people out of jobs, try not to let your rent pile up because by December 31st you could be owing thousands of dollars to your landlord.
