Girl Boss: HBCU Alumna turned TV News Station owner

Proud hornet, April Ross found her love for journalism at Alabama State University as a communication major. Prior to graduation in 2001, Ross interned at WJCN before working as a production assistant and later on as a reporter.

Fast forward to 2017, Ross happened to be at the scene where a deputy was shot and noticed that no other reporter was out covering this incident. At the time, Ross worked for WRBL News-3 in Columbus, Georgia. When she realized that she was the only reporter in the vicinity of the shooting, she did a live report on social media which brought a lot of buzz her way.

Today, Ross is now the owner of WJCN, a station she once interned in as an ASU hornet!

In an interview with Alabama State University Ross tells others that ASU is where she learned to hone in on her journalistic talents and eventually pursue her business ventures in the TV industry, hoping that other students will see her achievements as a testament to 'hard work pays off'.

"My advice to present students is that you must first work hard, learn well and work through the hard times if you wish to obtain your dreams," as stated by Ross, according to Alabama State University.
