Well, on her way, Morenike Joela started her journey to success at a young age and owes it all to her humble beginnings at Prairie View A&M University. A woman with many skills, Morenike shared with us via Zoom lecture how she got to where she is today.

The D.C native turned her college internship at The Washington Post into a position as a general assignment’s freelancer, as great as that opportunity was, that wasn’t her passion.

This was only the beginning for the proud panther graduate.

American University in Washington, D.C, was the next stop for Morenike where she studied film. While attending American University, she petitioned to take her screenwriting classes at Howard University, where she worked with award-winning filmmaker Haile Gerima.

By using her "mojo," Morenike took her passion and turned it into a gift that has granted her with many opportunities throughout the world of television and film.

Here are the top 10 Commandments for Thriving in the TV Business that she shared during the Zoom lecture;

1. Your passion is your purpose.

2. Doing great work gets you more work. Period.

3. Build authentic relationships.

4. Always be learning. Learn and hone your craft.

5. Create your own content.

6. Embrace and understand the importance of pivoting (adjusting).

7. Collaborating is essential.

8. Learn the business side of show business.

9. Find balance.

10. Give Back (opportunities/information in some way).

Morenike has always made her work her bond, and with that, every job she's applied for has been from referrals except for one time. The work that Morenike has done over the years has spoken for itself and gotten her jobs that she never imagined having when she first started.

The mom of two explained to our class that there were times when things weren't easy, but even in those times, she never gave up on her vision, and she continued to create.

Her ability to produce great work made it a no brainer for people she'd worked for in the past to refer her to other fantastic positions.

Morenike has a tremendous career in television and has written for programs like MTV News, BET, NBC, TNT, OWN, TV One, and PBS.

The hard-working, multi-talented, PV alumna shared her ten mega-jewels with us, and I couldn't appreciate it more,

Thank you, Morenike for sharing your success story with us.
