Kristen V. Carter is a woman who knows how to do it all. The passion and joy she finds in doing what she loves shows throughout her work. Kristen is a woman of many talents, which has afforded her an enormous amount of fantastic opportunities in the entertainment industry.
When she's not showing off her skating moves on Instagram, the award-winning filmmaker, television writer/ producer, is sharing her talents with the world through multiple media platforms.
Fresh out of high school, Kristen interned at BET. Shortly after BET, Kristen went on to intern at PBS and ABC, which gave her an immense amount of industry experience before landing her first major position as a head writer for the entertainment news show called "The Black Carpet."
At the age of 21, Kristen had written on her first show.
"If you have a desire and a passion, it will lead you where you want to go."
Like most college graduates, Kristen worried about getting a job right out of college, but she stayed positive and remained connected with her mentors, which helped her land her first job.
During the Zoom lecture, Kristen went through each letter of PVAMU and attached an acronym to every letter.
P for "Pay attention to your passion."
V for "create Value."
A for “Apply yourself."
M for "Mentor/Manifest relationships."
U for "Understand the landscape."
Kristen has been fortunate enough to have met influential people that have helped her get some of the positions she's had over the years. The recommendation is what might've got her in the door, but Kristen always let her work speak for itself, which kept her getting more opportunities aligned with her passion.
The takeaway I received from Kristen's Zoom lecture was that to be successful; you must have a vision of where it is you want to go and how you're going to get there. Things may seem tough in the beginning but if you can do right by people, believe in your abilities, and don't let fear get in the way of your greatness than you can achieve any goal you put your mind to,
"You may win some; you may lose some, but it's all a part of the journey."
